Sandra Slaton is the founding shareholder of Horne Slaton, PLLC. She received a B.A. Degree in Literature from Arizona State University in 1977, having been a Du Bois Scholar, graduating summa cum laude, Honors College and Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated from Arizona State University College of Law in 1980 and was admitted to the Arizona State Bar that same year.
Upon graduating, Slaton began her law career as an assistant federal public defender and then moved into private practice where she has remained for almost three decades. Ms. Slaton’s experience covers a variety of areas, including high profile criminal, constitutional and civil matters against firms as large as the United States Justice Department. She has tried extraordinarily complex cases involving criminal matters, family law, federal discrimination/harassment, construction claims, malpractice and a broad range of other legal issues.
Tom Horne served as Arizona’s Attorney General from 2010 to 2014. He served as the elected Arizona State Superintendent of Public Instruction from 2003 to 2011. As Attorney General, Tom personally argued cases in the Arizona Superior Court, Arizona Supreme Court, Federal District Court and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He personally argued for the State of Arizona before the United States Supreme Court in two cases.
Prior to his service in statewide elected office, Mr. Horne was a litigation attorney in private practice for more than 30 years. Early in his practice, Tom was inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates, which required documentation of, at a minimum, 25 trials to a jury to conclusion (not settled cases) as first chair lawyer. He developed a statewide reputation for simplifying complex commercial cases for juries.
Kristin has been an Associate Attorney at Horne Slaton, PLLC since July of 2014. Her practice focuses primarily on family law, commercial litigation and criminal law.
Kristin received her B.S. Degree in Political Science from Arizona State University in 2008. She graduated magna cum laude from Whittier Law School in May of 2013, where she received a Dean’s Merit Scholarship for ranking in the top 10% of her class. While in law school, Kristin was a member of Whittier Law Review, a teaching assistant and a research assistant.
Kristin also did extensive work in private practice as a law clerk on record clearing processes in over 10 states including Arizona which includes: set aside, arrest record sealing, probation termination, firearm rights restoration and civil rights restoration.
